We Can't Be Whatever We Want to Be

<![CDATA["You can be whatever you want to be" ... a lie told to encourage people to push and remove boundaries. At its best, it encourages people to push through barriers that inhibit their human dignity so they can breathe more fully their unique breath of God (which is what makes us weird, in the eyes of the world, as described in the previous post). However, our sinner hears this and runs rampant and decides we can reject who God made us to be and then desecrate and irreparably mutilate the gift of our bodies because we decide we identify as a gender or race or species other than what God made us to be. This is nuts, and the "woke" presumption of "what do you identify as" is a very divisive question, for it presumes facts not in evidence, such as we have the authority to decide our gender or race or species or some subset thereof we call "identity."!--more--

This came up today in a survey I filled out for a bikepacking organization that has become woke and wants to promote diversity in bikepackers, including gender identities.

I hope gender confused people decide they want to go bikepack and that barriers are removed for them to do so, for entering God's creation gives us a view of ourselves that is hard to dismiss, and the realities often challenge our delusions. The more deluded we are, the more we turn from God, and the less joy we experience, and the more we hate ourselves and displace that as hate from others and toward others. That gets ugly quick.

Anyone on an adventure in God's country will be humbled by weather and terrain ... things they can not and should not have control over. Route? Sure. Timing? Sort of, but once you're out there, you are out there and there ain't no teleporting out when things get tough. Harsh realities happen. A mountain between us and the campsite and water. A deluge. A washed out road. We don't get to decide these, only how we navigate them. Doing so instills humility. I suppose someone could "identify" that they are an adventure bikepacker who only does fair weather and flat or downhill, and then bull doze mountains out of their way. That is the same mutilation to the land that gender change surgery causes to the body, and the same denial of God's gift of creation.

How foolish would a tour-guide be to encourage a frustrated client facing a mountain climb on a mud soaked trail in a torrential rain without sign of letting up, late in the afternoon, with four hours of riding to go to a camp spot under normal circumstances by telling them to identify themselves as being on flat terrain on a sunny morning with all day to go and not a care in the world? To quote the literal Latin from Luke 24 on the Road to Emmaus, "stilted and tardy of heart".

Why this matters: our eternal soul. When we confuse being our own god in a vainglorious attempt to create ourselves (which we can't) in our own image, we deny God's image in us, and instead of loving ourselves, hate ourselves. So say Saint Augustine. "Whoever loves himself, not God, loves not himself ... he cannot love himself who loves himself to his own destruction" (Saint Augustine, Catena Aurea on John 21:18-19).

I hope any barriers can be removed preventing someone who wants to go on any outdoor adventure can go, so they can experience the humble joy that only comes from facing what we can not control and discovering how to navigate it humble, with wisdom and respect.

But asking me what gender or race I "identify" as? That's a nonstarter. I don't identify as any gender or race, I am the gender and race(s) God gave me. This question will only divide us, for it is rooted in a denial of reality.

May Christ startle you with joy!

---
This blog is spread primarily by word of mouth ... please forward with abandon!
Holy Papa Joseph Hat, Rated 1HPJ, for Easter

However, there is no standard, so unless you know the hat maker and their standard at the time a given hat was made, you have no idea if a 5x hat from fifty years ago has more beaver, and thus better weather repellency and longevity, than a modern 20x or 50x hat. There are 1000x and 5000x hats. I, on the other hand, now have a 1HPJ hat.!--more--

My family stretched and got me a full fur felt hat for my outdoor adventures. It is beautiful, and just the type of hat I've always wondered if it was superior to the plethora of previous hats I've tried over the years. It is. Vastly. More comfortable, doesn't flop, stays on, is warming when it needs to be and cooling when that is called for, at least tested so far from 15˚F and windy up to 65, sunny and calm while climbing a mountain trail for a few miles.

I love this hat! In the short few days I've hat it is already my favorite hat in my nearly fifty years, by a long shot. Then I made the mistake of putting it under the faucet to see how it will handle an extended rain or wet snow. It absorbed more than I'd like. I began to think maybe a full beaver hat was worth the ridiculous amount of money (4-8 times the cost of this hat), as mine has beaver but likely very little.

I researched. I fretted, in the guise of research and pondering. I was malcontent. Then, praying Matutinum first thing Easter after midnight, Saint Joseph told me I needn't get another hat, he would see this one protects me just fine.
Freedom of Religion vs. Woke Love to Hate "Hate"

<![CDATA[(I originally posted this to micro.blog on my trial account, hoping to promote dialogue. We need platforms that promote dialogue).

Freedom of religion is one of the founding bedrock principles of these United States of America. It, and thus our nation, is under grave threat from the Woke religion who love to hate "hate." This is true of the (anti)Equality Act, and it is true of micro.blog's "Community Guidelines," which I am intentionally testing with my initial posts. Why? !--more--

I write Catholic fiction, specifically modern parables. I uphold and teach Catholic teaching through story with the prayer that it aids people who hunger for truth and yearn to discover who God is and how to run toward Him with wild abandon. Among what I write about is choosing life over death, be it abortion or euthanasia; why we are called to choose gender obedience rather than gender identity; why marriage is between one man and one woman for life; why sex outside marriage is always selfish and thus always sinful; among other topics.

Micro.blog's Community Guidelines state:

Hate speech: Content that attacks other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease. We will not host microblogs whose primary purpose is inciting harm towards others on the basis of these categories.

My primary purpose is not in any way to "incite harm towards others on the basis of these categories;" however, my Catholic Faith teaches that some of these actions of "self-love" are actually sinful and cause harm to our eternal soul. As Saint Augustine explains:

"Whoever loves himself, not God, loves not himself ... he cannot love himself who loves himself to his own destruction" (Saint Augustine, Catena Aurea on John 21:18-19).

So, micro.blog ... how to you choose to address this inherent conflict between two religions: Catholicism and Woke-ism? And is pointing out this conflict an act of "hate" or simply contributing to the conversation which is what motivated you to create micro.blog?

Catholic are among those who are being "deplatformed" because of their beliefs and are looking for solutions.

May Christ startle you with joy!

---
This blog is spread primarily by word of mouth ... please forward with abandon!

Hate speech: Content that attacks other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease. We will not host microblogs whose primary purpose is inciting harm towards others on the basis of these categories.

My primary purpose is not in any way to “incite harm towards others on the basis of these categories;” however, my Catholic Faith teaches that some of these actions of “self-love” are actually sinful and cause harm to our eternal soul. As Saint Augustine explains:

“Whoever loves himself, not God, loves not himself ... he cannot love himself who loves himself to his own destruction” (Saint Augustine, Catena Aurea on John 21:18-19).

So, micro.blog ... how to you choose to address this inherent conflict between two religions: Catholicism and Woke-ism? And is pointing out this conflict an act of “hate” or simply contributing to the conversation which is what motivated you to create micro.blog?

Catholic are among those who are being “deplatformed” because of their beliefs and are looking for solutions.

May Christ startle you with joy!

<![CDATA[Blessed Word, Vivifier of all creatures, seen and unseen, that Your saints may delight in You and You in them for eternity, behold our broken world, our stained Church, our sinful hearts, so far fallen from Your desire. See the souls of men riddled!--more-- through with blight, yearning to be their own gods. See myself wracked with decay. Grant not our yearning of pride! Instead, pour forth Your most healing balm of Love, Justice, Truth, and Mercy, that we, who desire, despite our ignorance, to love as You love, may be strengthened to lift our eyes and our souls, tearing away from our self yearning to gaze instead upon Your Sweet Face. Fortify us, that we may come to so fear, know, love, serve, and unite with You that we may surge forth upon the world in bold humility as Your Most Precious Body, to love one another as You have loved us.

Benedicámus Dómino
Deo grátias.
Fidélium ánimæ per misericórdiam Dei requiéscant in pace.
Amen.

---
This blog is spread primarily by word of mouth ... please forward with abandon!
To Remain True, Science Requires Faith

<![CDATA[Science is the bold and humble discipline of exploring God's natural law for the betterment of humanity.

Science arose as a human endeavor in the middle ages, beneath the cultivating wings of Catholic faith and in the nest of Catholic monasteries and universities.

Why does science require obedience to faith to remain true?!--more-- Because Faith is a higher truth, and truth can not contradict truth. Also, because science requires virtue, lest it fall into the temptations of sin's quagmire, and come to serve agenda and ideology rather than Truth. We are witnessing this as subjects of the worlds largest experiment at the hands of the global cabal, starting with unprecedented quarantining of everyone to control an uncontrollable virus (except that our God-given immune response is handling it just fine, as it has through the ages, though always at a price that reminds us we aren't actually in charge) ... a response justified by fraudulent science, formerly known as speculative modeling, formerly known as making stuff up.

Without bold humility to Christ in His Church, science loses its way, lacking fortitude to be disciplined in exploring God's natural law, and even forgetting that it is ... God's. We made nothing we study and learn ... we are striving to catch up with God, a noble and humbling occupation of human endeavor.

As related by Venerable Mary of Agrida in the 1600s, God explains the exploration of Truth to her and the differences of opinion that naturally arise during these explorations, as well as the earthly body responsible as the repository of this Truth.

... very often I permit and cause differences of opinions among the doctors and teachers. Thus some of them maintain what is true and other, according to their natural disposition, defend what is doubtful. Other still again are permitted to say even what is not true, though not in open contradiction to the veiled truths of faith, which all must hold. Some also teach, what is possible according to their supposition. By this varied light, truth is traced, and the mysteries of faith become more manifest. Doubt serves as a stimulus to the understanding for the investigation of truth.
They (controversies) are also permitted in order, to make it known, that real science dwells in my Church more than in the combined study of all the holy and perfect teachers, and that she can make them wise above the wisdom of the worldly wise; that there is above them One, who is the Prompter of the wise (Wis. 7,15), namely, Myself; who alone knows all and comprehends all; who weighs and measures, without ever being measured or comprehended (Wis. 9, 13); that men, although they may search my judgments and testimonies ever so much, cannot attain them, unless I give the intelligence and light (Job 32, 8), who am the beginning and the Author of all wisdom and science. I desire that men, in acknowledging all this, give Me praise, exaltation, confession, supremity and glory forever.
    - Venerable Mary of Agrida, "Mystical City of God," V. 1, 77

It is also humbling to know that all that science can discover and aid in creating (because, again, we didn't create the material or the world or ourselves) pales infinitely compared with the mystical wonder of a single Ave Maria well prayed.

May Christ startle you with joy!

---
This blog is spread primarily by word of mouth ... please forward with abandon!
